1. Establishment and development

The Socialist Party of Macedonia has long political history, from the end of the 19th, throughout the 20th century till today.

The Socialist Party of Macedonia maintains and continues with the political tradition of progressive socialist thought of the Macedonian people and the confirmed values of the Socialist labor movement. As a follower of the National, National liberation, antifascist Front which alter the World War 2 changed into Socialist Union, The Socialist Party of Macedonia remains consistent to its own rich experiences inspired by the progressive socialist believes in justice, humanity, social solidarity and equality, enriching them with the current, up-to date requests.    

SPM political determination is based on already built democratic concepts and caudexes of the socialist movement in European and traditional-historical Macedonian dimensions. Today SPM is upgraded to the valuable believes and discoveries which are privilege for the contemporary society courses and interests of the citizens of Republic of Macedonia. SPM in its historical continuity, and in the actual period of its existence and activity, declaring itself as a democratically oriented party, firmly relies on the interests of the citizens who have chosen the left option.  As a political party in the Macedonian plural society with civil political choice, determined with the Constitution of Republic of Macedonia, SPM is able to implement and develop its attributes and content values. SPM implements the reconciliation of the historical and contemporary civil values, taken as a responsibility, consistently and successfully in the social life in RM. With the activities in the Parliament and the occasional participations in the Government of Republic of Macedonia, SPM concerns consistently and thoroughly for the Macedonian domicile population and for the human, political, economic and social rights of the citizens from the other ethnical communities in Macedonia, for the observing of the religious, cultural-traditional customs and of other supplements significant for enriching the mosaic of the social life in Republic of Macedonia as well.         

2. Party organs

In 1991 the first Congress of SPM took place, where the Political program and the Statute of the Party were approved.

The highest organ in the Party is the Congress and it is held once every four years (until now five Congresses have been held). The highest organ between two Congresses is the Republican Committee, then the Executive Council, the Supervisory Board and the Presidency.   

3. Participation in elections

Starting from the first parliamentary elections in Macedonia until today, the Socialist Party of Macedonia constantly participates in the election processes and it has from three to eight members in the 120 MPs Parliament. 

Since the 2006 and from the June election 2008 the Socialist party in the Parliament is present with 3 parliamentarians and together with several political parties in a Coalition of the actual Government of Republic of Macedonia, it is present with minister, vice-minister and other leading positions on state and local level of government.

SPM participates in all local elections for electing mayors and counselors and it constantly has mayors and councilors in the local authority.
Beside the political platform and the political program, SPM, for each parliamentarian and local elections prepares a special elective program.

4. Party Membership

A member of the Socialist Party of Macedonia can be any citizen of Republic of Macedonia, aged above 18, who will accept the Program and the Statute of the Party.  

The member of the Party receives a member card that is designed and established by the highest organ of the Socialist Party of Macedonia.

The Member has a full right to give initiatives and suggestions for the working of the Party and of its organs, to participate in their work, to express his/her own believes and attitudes, and to make efforts to adopt and accomplish them, to elect and be elected in the organs and governing body of the Party, parliamentarians and functions in the Parliament of Republic of Macedonia, in the Government of Republic of Macedonia and in the local authorities.     

5. Types of activity

Within the framework of SPM there is an Organization of Young Socialists and Women’s Forum that is active and has their own organs. Furthermore, there are commissions for any field of the social life that treat different legal projects and actual social issues.
